JD WETHERSPOON 41

WYKE SMUGGLERS 37

JD WETHERSPOON managed to edge out Wyke Smugglers in a close contest in the South & West Dorset League.

A slow start from both teams with a few mistakes saw a fairly even opening, with each duo of shooters going goal for goal.

Strong centre court and brilliant feeding in to the circle from JD’s Jenny Ayles saw her team just ahead at the end of the first quarter.

JD came out the stronger of the two in the second period, with good communication and play across court.

Wing-attack Freyja Ellis for Wyke took a tumble in this quarter, but was soon back up on her feet and working the ball well for her team.

A switch up in positions for JD saw added pressure on the Wyke shooters, and it appeared to work at first.

Good team work and accurate shots from mother and daughter duo Sharon Chick and Lynsey Gardner ensured their team maintained their lead heading into the final quarter.

Determined not to lose out, Wyke came out fighting in the closing stages.

Some crucial turnovers from defender Elenor Wilberforce allowed her team to close the scoreline, however JD managed to remain ahead and take the win.

DORSET COUNTY 41

MISSION FITNESS 23

APPEARING to be evenly matched, both teams started at a steady pace with strong passes, however it was good spacing and accurate work from county’s Jade Carroll and Bryony Davies which pushed their team ahead by seven goals at the end of the first quarter.

Using their height to their advantage, the county shooters continued their hard work in the circle.

Mission Fitness picked up the pace at this point with centre Wendy Doyle being a dominant player within the team, working hard around the court.

Despite their play improving with precise passes and key interceptions, Mission Fitness remained behind.

A great start from Mission in the third quarter, displaying quality team work and communication resulted in three consecutive goals from Lauren Dates.

Good interceptions by county’s Centre Jodie Sage saw the ball remain in her team’s possession, and, with her eye on the target, Jade Carroll continued to score, keeping her side ahead.

Changes in positions from either side were made and it appeared to increase the pace of play.

Accurate and precise passes from County ensured the ball was always getting to their shooters.

Despite the clear difference in score Mission Fitness kept up their morale and determination until the final whistle was blown.

Division Two

OTC 29

BEAMINSTER BOMBERS 15

A STRONG start from Beaminster and accurate shooting from Stacie Stewart saw them take an early two-goal lead.

OTC took a while to find their rhythm, but, as soon as they did, they came back fighting, taking control of play and ending the first quarter 7-4 ahead.

Despite Beaminster settling in to the game and playing great netball in the second quarter, defensive turnovers from OTC’s Nicole Baker enabled her team to pull further ahead.

Despite some brilliant netball by Beaminster the score line favoured a very controlled performance by OTC, remaining unbeaten this season.

BAY FENCING 42

ALLWAYS REMOVALS 28

BAY took the initial lead in this fast-paced game, with strong mid-court passing from centre Sandra Firth and wing-attack Hayley Stanton.

The second quarter saw Bay bring on Emily Park as goal shooter, this extra height in the circle proved to help despite hard work from Allways’ goal defence Catherine Earnshaw, enabling Bay to increase their lead.

Allways fought back hard in the third with timely interceptions from goal keeper Nicola Spry, this, paired with the accurate passing around court from goal attack Lorraine Kellaway and centre Emma Kellaway saw them begin to close the gap.

Allways’ shooting pair of Lorraine Kellaway and Nai Legg complimented each other’s play beautifully, with sharp passes and accurate shooting, the Allways score line increased.

However, Bay’s goal-attack Charlotte Reid had her eye in and moved with ease around the circle, producing timely long shots which ultimately took her to team to an early win of 42-28 following an injury to an Allways player.
