ATHLETE Holly Neill admitted she was inspired by her “incredible experience” at the Paralympic Games in Brazil this summer and is looking to push on in a bid to make Tokyo 2020.

The 27-year-old, from Chantmarle, made the latter stages of the women’s F40/41 discus competition in Rio, finishing eighth with a throw of 23.13-metres.

“It was an absolutely incredible experience and absolutely amazing,” Neill said when asked about her first Paralympic Games.

“My plan with my coach, Andrew Roda, was to make the final, which I did. I was really pleased with my performance, I hit my aim and the medals were not too far off.

“The atmosphere in Brazil was amazing and, being in the athletes’ village, it was huge and there were so many athletes from loads of different sports. That’s something new for me and it was incredible.

“Being there has inspired me to carry on to Tokyo, I could do well there. I just have to train loads and see how it goes really.”

Tunisia’s Raoua Tlili broke the world record in Neill’s event to claim gold in Rio with a massive 33.28m – more than six metres further than the rest of the field.

But Britain’s Neill is looking to adjust her technique in a bid to improve her performance and boost her medal hopes.

Neill added: “She (Tlili) is in a total league of her own and it’s always amazing to compete against her. She always pulls something amazing out of the bag on the day, it’s really inspiring to watch her.

“I am working on a new technique in adding an extra turn to my throw. Hopefully that will give me a bit more power and ultimately make my throw bigger – that will hopefully put me in medal contention.

“We will see what happens next year at the World Championships.”

The Dorset star started a new job as a teaching assistant almost immediately after returning to the UK from the Games and is set to get back in strength and conditioning training next week.
