WEYMOUTH 5

SOUTHAMPTON 0

WEYMOUTH made it five wins out of five as they continued their unbeaten in Hampshire Division One.

It started well for the leaders as Patrick May scored the opener inside 10 minutes with a sharp drag flick of a short corner into the roof of the net.

After this, Weymouth took control of the game thanks to the midfield partnership of captain Steve Membury and Matt Hicks.

This led to two more goals before the end of the first half.

Daniel Bowles assisted May for his second of the game and this was shortly followed by Teddy Andrews getting in front of the keeper with a smart backhand finish.

The second half started better for Southampton as Daniel Bowles received a yellow card for a bad challenge.

However, Weymouth did not let this affect their game management as the visitors could not punish them while they were down to 10 men.

Once back to a full complement, Weymouth went looking for goals four and five which came in quick succession.

Firstly a neat pass through the Southampton defence by Andrews led to David Reed beating the keeper at close range.

Weymouth saw much of the possession in the second half that led to a counter-attack in which May unselfishly flicked a cross towards goal for Aaron Wilkinson to cleverly deflect at goal giving the keeper no change.

It came to no surprise that May was awarded man of the match for two goals and an assist.

This Saturday, Weymouth travel to Portsmouth to face the university side currently sitting at bottom of the league and hope to gain three points
