WEYMOUTH’S Martin Puckett has booked his place in the final of the World Under-25 Indoor Bowls Championships, after beating defending champion Joe Mower in the semi-finals at the Potters Resort in Norfolk this morning.

The talented England international, who represents Moonfleet IBC, got the better of Mower to run out a 2-0 winner in sets and book his place in tonight’s final After going three ends down against the defending champion in the first two ends of the game, Puckett responded brilliantly with a clinical two-shot count in the third and levelled things up in the fourth at 3-3.

Another shot picked up in the fifth gave Puckett the advantage and the Weymouth ace found himself 7-4 up going into the final end of the first set.

And when Mower’s attempt to fire missed the target in that crucial last end, Puckett was awarded two shots and put himself in the box seat with a set advantage.

With the score deadlocked at 5-5 going into the final end of the second set, Puckett held his nerve to claim the decisive shot in the final end to win 2-0 in sets and set up a showdown with either Australia’s Ellen Ryan or Scotland’s Jason Banks, who play later today.
