BIG results look to have set up a dramatic end to the season in Division One of the Weymouth & District League.

Park District dropped valuable points in their 24-12 win over Red Triangle.

John Ryan (8), Mike Doyle (6) and Richard Wilshere (7) all lost a match apiece in the victory.

A full strength Budmouth B took full advantage in sweeping aside Shipton Gorge A 30-8 to top the division by a single point.

Budmouth A have a game in hand in third and have still to play both Park and Budmouth B so cannot be ruled out of a challenge for the title either, especially given their convincing 30-3 win over Budmouth C.

Tom Lydford and Robin Prince picked up the only legs for Budmouth in the singles ties.

YMCA struggled to a 23-20 success over bottom club Springfield B. Brian Hansford scored a maximum for the winners with Paul Arnold (8) top scoring for Springfield in a spirited performance.

In the division’s other game, Colliton X had a good 24-11 win over Preston B. Mick Hogan (9) top scored for the victors with Roger Lovell (7) top scoring for Preston.

All Saints remain top of Division Two despite not playing. Pilgrims A are second even after their 19-14 defeat by fourth-placed Preston A.

Despite the loss, Tim Scott was still top scorer on the night for Pilgrims with a maximum. Simon Green (7) and Eddie Chapman (3) secured the win with a 3-1 doubles victory.

Shipton Gorge B look handily placed in third with games in hand and their 30-7 win over second bottom Wyke D keeps them well and truly in the title hunt.

Counterparts Shipton Gorge C also had a good win, though it was a lot closer. Their 22-16 success was only secured in the last three matches having been 14-13 down going in to them. A 3-0 win for Joachim Wood (7) over Dave Clegg (4), a 3-2 victory for Trevor Deadman-Spall (5) over Malcolm Smith (3) and a 3-0 doubles win for Wood and Dan Corren (7) over Clegg and Greg Clarke (9) saw them over the line.

STEPS’s continued surge towards the Division Three title continued with a near perfect 30-1 victory over Preston D.

Mike Hall, Joshua Why and Paul Hammond all secured maximums with Liz Wilkinson securing the single point for Preston.

Springfield D sit in second place after a 23-12 win over STEPS M in an exciting match with some great hard-hitting rallies. Budmouth D remain third despite a 20-12 loss to Wey Valley TC.

The match of the week involved Budmouth E at home to Wey Valley School in a battle of the sexes. This was a really close match with the Budmouth girls getting off to a good start but the Wey Valley boys came back strongly to sneak the win.

The match of the tie was Rosa McKechnie (9) recovering after losing the first two legs to beat Jules Holloway (8) 12-10 in the deciding fifth leg.

Ethan Bingham (7) stealing a leg off McKechnie proved to be decisive in the final analysis and the 3-1 win in the doubles for Wey Valley ensured an 18-17 success.
