IT HAS been a very satisfactory season for Dorchester's seven squash and racketball teams, who have battled hard and have enhanced the reputation of the club throughout the county.

Division One saw the squash first team, who for various reasons weren't always able to put out their strongest team, finish a creditable sixth place in a strong top division.

The squash second team had a very good season finishing third in their division with 173 points, just three points behind the second placed team.

The club’s squash third and fourth teams, playing in Division Four, came a solid third and fourth from nine teams with 226 and 204 points respectively. Competitive spice was added to the matches between the two teams with the fourth team winning the first fixture and the third team winning the return match.

The club’s racketball first team had a tough season in Division One but they came through to finish in fifth place in a league which has got stronger, as a lot of the top squash players in the county now play both games.

The racketball second team were the club's shining stars, winning their division and so gaining promotion to Division Two.

There was a late drama as Dorchester’s Captain, Keith Loader, was prepared to concede the top spot to Ferndown Seconds knowing that they had only to score 11 points in their remaining fixture against their own club's third team to become league winners.

But, as sometimes happens, the unexpected occurs and the Ferndown Thirds won, meaning that Dorchester Seconds won the division by 186 points to Ferndown seconds 182.

Considering the frailty of the squad caused by injuries and sickness, the club’s racketball thirds did well to finish fifth in their division.

Captain Colin England picked out his number one, the teenager Callum Watts, as the team star having recorded an almost perfect winning record.
