WESSEX Golf Centre’s Michael Watson finished tied for fourth at the Total Triumph Classic at Oake Manor.

Playing in the PGA West Region Order of Merit event, the Weymouth-based professional carded rounds of 70 and 64 at the venue in Taunton to finish just one shot back from a place in a play-off.

After his level-par opening, Watson showed his class in the second round with a storming finale to move his way up the standings.

Undeterred by a bogey at the par-three 14th, the Dorset golfer responded immediately with an eagle three at the 15th and birdies on the last two holes to finish on six-under-par overall.

The score of 64 was Watson’s low round of the season so far and only the third time he has broken 70. His impressive display also earned him £541.67 in prize money.

Watson finished behind the eventual winner, Sion Bebb, who claimed his first Order of Merit trophy for 17 years after an angry swan threatened to derail his chances.

The 48-year-old Morlais Castle club professional beat Ladies European Tour player Lydia Hall (Hensol Golf Academy) and rising West star Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death play-off.

Bebb then revealed that he was attacked by the swan as he was putting for a birdie at the short 16th beside a lake.
