WESSEX Golf Centre's Michael Watson claimed a share of second place at the region’s Captain’s Charity Pro-am in Falmouth.

Paul Hendriksen of Ivybridge scooped top place on the home course of captain Nick Rogers.

Halves of 33 and 35 for a four-under 68 with birdies at the second, eighth, ninth, 13th and 17th brought a one-shot success over occasional player Richard Sadler of Hayle Golf Range and Watson.

Sadler started with bogeys at the third and fourth before settling down with four birdies at the eighth, 12th, 13th and 16th.

Watson dropped a shot at the seventh before an eagle two at the 11th took him under the card. He signed for 70 following birdies at the 14th and 17th and a bogey at the 15th.

Promising Tavistock assistant Anthony Buchanan and Grant Slater (Carlyon Bay) both made three birdies and were the only other players under par on 71 to share fourth.

Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew) and Paul Turpin (Carlyon Bay) matched par to finish joint sixth.

Kevin Pitts, the former Woodspring and Mendip pro, made six birdies but dropped seven shots including two at the last. Chris Gill (Newquay), who also suffered a mixed bag, dropped three shots on the opening holes and made a triple bogey on the 11th although he compensated with five birdies.
