WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters expects a “hard” task for his riders when they travel to Plymouth Demons in their latest Southern Development League meeting tonight.

The two sides suffered an abandonment last week in the reverse fixture, also held at Plymouth, due to time constraints when level at 6-6.

But Wildcats have again encountered selection problems this weekend, with only Alex Spooner, Craig Nethercott and Mick Sutton available at the time of writing.

Peters told Echosport: “It’s going to be a hard one. As normal we have got some good riders but only three in the side at the moment. We’ll keep trying.

“Hopefully the meeting goes ahead and we can see if anyone can give us a hand. It’s been a problem all year, it’s really hard.

“We’ve never had a rider ride back-to-back meetings. We’ve had riders not ready, others not driving the distances.

“Pretty much every meeting we go to it’s always different riders. Hopefully we’ll have some different riders for next year.”

And Peters feels the unsettled squad may have an effect on the younger riders aiming to develop their skills.

“They are not getting the track time and the only way they can do that is by riding in this league. They can use it to their advantage. They need to learn about riding a bike.

“Some of it comes down to money and time off work. Most of them have all got jobs and they can’t really afford to keep taking time off to come down,” he said.
