THE FIRST round of divisional games for the Weymouth Indoor Volleyball League has taken place as Portland Prison and CSSC Wildcats made early statements for the season ahead.

In Division One Portland Prison are undefeated whilst hot on their heels are rivals Parkers and Weatherbury A.

Liam Tewkesbury has made the change from Warriors to Parkers which may see them press Prison harder for the title.

Old Spa have not won a game which has seen them languish in fourth but will be hoping to pick up form with the return of Stephen Williamson and Ian Denslow who has missed a number of games through injury.

In Division Two CSSC Wildcats are undefeated and perhaps feel they should have been in the top division.

The young Diggers with Attitude are second having with a well rounded team capable of playing some consistent volleyball.

Weatherbury B have suffered having to lend many players to an injury struck first team whilst SYNT containing the mother and daughter combination of Emma, Chloe and Lucy Oldrid have struggled to make an impact despite the signing of strong outside hitter Ben Mills.

In Division Three it is Malboro Renegades who have performed well, Riley Greenwood-Neate being the pick of the players with Andy Higgs also impressing.

Ultra Ballers are a close second with Team ASM not far behind them in third.

Winless CSSC Meercats prop up the league in fourth but will be hoping to have a turn around in fortunes.

The Weymouth Indoor Volleyball League Cup quarter-finals saw Weatherbury Warriors A, Parkers, CSSC Wildcats and Portland Prison book their spot in the semi-finals.

In the plate Old Spa Legacy, who were unlucky not to qualify for the cup having had a group draw containing both of last year's finalists, progressed to the finals and will be joined by Jez Cookes’ CSSC Meercats.

The CSSC Wildcats took a tournament which will please them having not managed to stay in the top division this season as Rob Semmence and Mark Johnson showed their team still has got what it takes to play at the top level.

There has also been a charity tournament which was raising money for Dorset Abilities and managed to raise £176 for the charity.

The annual tournament sees players drawn out of the hat to play in mixed teams with different standards.

With a theme of TV series it was won by Coronation Street who were well led by the experienced Mark Johnson.

Division two players Rob Bonham Lovett and Christian Postoloche played particularly well showing the depth of the league.
