OLD Spa Legacy and Portland Prison collected silverware as the Weymouth League reached its climax with the plate and cup finals.

In the plate, First Division side Old Spa Legacy took on third-string CSSC Meercats and despite getting a nine-point headstart, Meercats were unable to compete with the consistency that Old Spa offered.

A mistake in the line-up during the second set by Old Spa saw confusion and Meercats briefly were able to make some headwind, however, the experienced Carl Neal came on to shore things up.

From there on in, it was plain sailing with Nigel Coelho being perhaps the pick of the hitters.

In the cup final, Portland Prison faced their rivals Parkers.

The Prison starting six included five Weymouth South West League players including regular stars Ryan Stout and Sean Hendry which ultimately proved too much for Parkers.

For Parkers, Weymouth Libero Elliot Sawyer did his best playing as setter but he did not have the same offensive arsenal that Prison setter Terry Oldrid had.

In the leagues, Division One’s Portland Prison again were too strong for the rest as they won all of their games convincingly.

Parkers finished second and Old Spa ended the season strongly to finish third while Weatherbury who were hit by injuries to key players such as Ben Mills finished fourth.

In Division Two, CSSC Wildcats were clinical, winning all their games in a division that players such as Mark Johnson and Rob Semmence would not hope to find themselves in again next year.

Diggers with Attitude, with its large Portland contingent including Becky O’Neill and James Turrell, came second just pipping Weatherbury Warriors B who perhaps suffered with their first team’s injury list.

Bryony Suzanne and and Giles Heaman will however, be proud of the way their team battled.

SYNT finished fourth and will be happy considering they were a side only put together in the final moments of pre-season, with Lucy Oldrid perhaps being the one to watch next year.

In the bottom division, a real dogfight took place as Malboro Renegades took the spoils and Riley Greenwood-Neate showed great potential.

Team ASM were not far behind with Ultra Ballers following closely in third, Meercats claimed fourth but will be happy to have at least made the plate final.
