DORCHESTER can start the new year as they mean to go on when Martyn Peel’s men search for a much-needed win at Corsham tomorrow (2.15pm).

The county town club are without a Southern Counties South victory since beating the same opponents at Coburg Road way back on the second weekend of the season.

That means it has been eight successive league defeats for Dorchester, a run which has left them one place off the foot of the table with only beleaguered Ivel Barbarians worse off.

However, Corsham have triumphed just three times this term and go into the game on the back of two pretty hefty losses at Wimborne and Sherborne.

A Dorchester team will be in action on home soil this weekend when the club’s second XV host their Weymouth counterparts in an eagerly-anticipated derby clash (3pm).

Weymouth are hoping to aven-ge the 19-5 defeat to their local rivals at Monmouth Avenue earlier in the season while recording a fourth straight win in the process.

The seasiders were on fire before Christmas, scoring exactly 200 points in their last three league outings, though tomorrow’s hosts have a third consecutive Dorset & Wilts Two South victory in their sights too.

In the same division, Puddle-town’s aim will be to repeat their 36-10 home success over North Dorset Thirds last autumn when the sides meet again tomorrow (3pm).

Bridport have struggled for consistency this season and currently sit 10th in Dorset & Wilts One South ahead of their home clash with Westbury (2.15pm).

But they do have more stability at the club now compared to when they took on Westbury in September – the Wiltshire club raced to a 78-14 trouncing of the Blues.

Since then, however, Westbury have failed to win a league game that has actually taken place.

A walkover against Swanage & Wareham Seconds has been the only highlight of their campaign since beating Bridport.

Meanwhile, the Swans’ second XV go to Wimborne Seconds, while back in Southern Counties South, Swanage & Wareham first entertain Sherborne (2.15pm).

And the home side will have a score to settle after losing 27-13 to Sherborne in the reverse fixture in September.

The Swans beat Wimborne in their last game before Christmas while Sherborne thrashed North Dorset 42-3.
