WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 90 WIMBORNE III 12

THE hosts ran amok at Monmouth Avenue in a demolition of Wimborne Thirds.

Fly-half Steve Nation-Grainger crossed for five of Weymouth & Portland’s 12 tries, while Bryn Llewellyn kicked the rest of the points.

Henry Perry, fresh from his try-scoring exploits against Swanage & Wareham Seconds the previous Saturday, touched down to first to get the ball rolling.

Jake Guildford and Sean Murphy then added tries of their own as the home side got into full flow.

Man of the match Nation-Grainger went over for his first and then added two more following an Andy Bowditch score.

Paul Harding’s men did not let up and Ryan Lewendon got on the scoresheet before Nation-Grainger was at it again.

There was also a try for Duncan Bezzant, Nation-Grainger then got his fifth and centre Llewellyn rounded things off to take the score up to 90.

Wimborne did manage a couple of scores but they were nothing more than a consolation.

Head coach Harding was a delighted man afterwards and gave special praise to star performer Nation-Grainger. "Our handling was fantastic and we moved the ball well,” he said. “We kept our shape and our discipline.

“We were relentless going forward and we didn’t give Wimborne an inch. We started scoring tries early on and the lads kept their heads.they didn’t get too greedy.

“At the end of the day, we were playing against a club’s third team and the lads aren’t going to get carried away. You can only play what is front of you and we did a very professional job, which is what we always try and do.

“We look to be professional in our attitude, regardless of who we play, and all of the players did that on Saturday.

"And once again we put into practice the things we have been working on in training.”

He added: “Steve Nation-Grainger is a really good player and he has been doing well for us. He gets better each week and is really enjoying playing at fly-half after moving up from full-back.”

Weymouth & Portland do not have a game in Dorset & Wilts Two South this weekend.

Their next game is at home against Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds a week on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Weymouth & Portland Thirds were given a walkover when Ellingham & Ringwood Thirds could not raise a side for their Dorset & Wilts Four contest.
