DORCHESTER 26 SHERBORNE 56

ALTHOUGH they were well beaten by Sherborne at Coburg Road, Dorchester did have the consolation of bonus point for scoring four tries themselves.

Despite playing into the stiff breeze, Sherborne started the better and it wasn’t long before their centre blasted his way through the home defence to score by the posts, the conversion was a formality.

The hosts hit back immediately when they were awarded a penalty try as Sherborne hauled down a driving maul headed to their line.

Baker’s conversion levelled the scores.

A simple penalty put the visitors back into the lead and, from there, Sherborne gradually pulled away.

Three further tries, one of which was converted, and Sherborne had a bonus point in the bag before the break.

The hosts did manage a try of their own, Rory Greening forcing his way into the left corner following a period of sustained pressure.

Baker converted from the touchline and Sherborne led by 13 points at half-time.

Two quick tries and penalty at the start of the second half extinguished any hope of a Dorchester comeback but they continued to give their opponents problems with their scrum and driving lineout.

In the final 20 minutes, both sides added two tries apiece.

Dorchester second-row Adam Makepeace crossed at the heart of yet another line-out drive and replacement prop Tom Bamlet earned the try bonus point with the last play of the game.
