WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND II 36

BLANDFORD II 5

WEYMOUTH & Portland II’s convincingly beat Blandford II’s to be crowned champions of Dorset & Wilts Division Four.

The first half was a very even match with only one try being scored when Andy Bowditch went blind from a five-metre scrum and fed the ball for Luke Savage to touch down.

The second half was a different story with Weymouth running in five tries to only one from the visitors.

The first saw debutant Norton Rogers receive the ball inside his own 22 and when he switched to overdrive there was no stopping him.

With the try under the posts, Khylo Farley had no problem adding the extra two points.

The next try soon followed when Farley took a quick tap penalty and crossed for Harry Baker to convert.

Farley got his second try when Rogers chased a kick ahead and put him in for the host’s fourth try.

The score was 24-0 with more to come when Rich Polley came off the back off a scrum to feed Lewis Allan who went in out wide for try number five, which Mike Orchard almost converted.

After another good handling move Rob Smith broke through the defensive line and fed Rogers who used his pace to go over under the posts and convert his own try.

Credit to the visitors who never gave up and were rewarded with the last try of the match.

* The only fixture for Weymouth & Portland this weekend is tomorrow when the club's second XV travel to Greenfields to lock horns with Puddletown in a challenge.
Club chairman Ian McMillan said: “There doesn’t seem to be the numbers of teams touring the area in recent years which is a shame for us, but at least some of the lads will have a run out at Puddletown.”
