NORTH DORSET II 38

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 12

SEASIDERS’ centre Bryn Llewellyn was both hero and villain as Weymouth & Portland fell to defeat at North Dorset in Dorset & Wilts One South.

He scored the visitors’ opener but then saw red early in the second half for an alleged headbutt, leaving his team a man down for fully 35 minutes.

Full-back Chris Lewendon crossed for the Seasiders’ second touchdown on the afternoon with his brother Ryan landing a conversion for the visitors, but they were powerless to prevent North Dorset cruising to a comfortable triumph.

Speaking after the game, Weymouth & Portland first-team manager Vaughan Carter said: “The result doesn’t reflect the game as a whole, we were well in touch at the break just five points down with the score at 17 points to 12 in favour of the hosts.

“Then the referee saw fit to show Bryn a straight red card following an altercation when he was adjudged to have dealt a headbutt to an opponent.

“As head butts go, on a scale of one to 10 it was probably a two or three, but quite rightly the referee dismissed Bryn and now his season is all but over, which is a shame as we play Dorchester next time out and now we will be without one of our best backs.

He added: “We played on with 14 and were well in the game, however, North Dorset brought on two young backs in the final quarter when we were tiring and they punished us, running in four late tries.”

One name of note that was a positive on the afternoon for the away side was Lewis Richards, who was impressive on his Weymouth & Portland debut.

Despite the defeat, Weymouth & Portland remain fifth in the league pile behind Ridgeway rivals Dorchester, who they play in a derby at Monmouth Avenue this weekend.
