NEW Weymouth & Portland captain Dan Bowditch “can’t wait” to get the new season underway when his side visits Swanage & Wareham Seconds in Dorset & Wilts One South tomorrow (3pm).

Bowditch takes the reins from departing skipper Ryan Lewendon, who has joined Yeovil.

But, after welcoming a number of new faces to the club, Bowditch is confident the club will be “rejuvenated” for the latest campaign.

He told Echosport: “I can’t wait, it’s my first season as captain. We’ve got a few new faces in the team and I think quite a lot of players have left.

“Everyone has started to buy into how we’re playing, confidence is growing and I think it will be a rejuvenated club.”

Last year Weymouth & Portland consolidated their position in the league following promotion and, following a difficult summer, Bowditch is targeting another season of stability.

He said: “I think realistically this season we’ll look to finish high to middle of the table again.

“Hopefully next season we can push for promotion and an increase in numbers will help.”

And Bowditch is looking for the club’s new backs to make a difference against the Swans, including fly-half Alex Thoms who returns to the club after a spell away from the game.

Bowditch said: “I used to play for them when I was in colts, they have a good team. They like to play the forwards and it will be a bit of a dog fight.

“Hopefully we can use the backs to get through them. We have a few new faces like our fly-half Alex.

“He played for us before, then he went to Dorchester and he had a couple of years out after. He’s started playing again which is good for us because he’s a great player.”
