WEYMOUTH Wildcats’ co-promoter Martin Peters insisted he “enjoyed every minute” of the club’s first season back racing as they get set for their final night of racing tonight.

Reading – another phoenix club like the Wildcats – will be the opponents for the seaside club with the clash taking part at Eastbourne (9pm).

This is a one-off meeting but Peters is expecting a competitive battle.

He told Echosport: “I think it will be a good meet.

“We have a couple of youngsters riding for us, a grass track veteran and Connor Locke, who has been racing for us this season.

“It’s a strong side but Reading are strong too.

“It’s going to be a good little tussle.”

Weymouth and Reading’s battle back from anonymity has seen them travel the width of England in search of competition.

Now, taking on each other, Peters is happy to take on a side that he can relate to.

He added: “They started up this year and they’re hoping to get back into the Elite League.

“Their track was ripped away from them, which was sad.

“Like us, they’re trying to get their name back out there and I think they’re bringing more than 200 fans with them, which is going to be good for everyone.”

With Weymouth in talks over getting a track back in the town – including car venues – and Peters insists the first year with the club has been successful.

“We’re hunting for a new track and we have a lot of irons in the fire.

“It’s (the season) been fantastic. We’ve enjoyed every minute and we have learnt lots.

“We’ve gained lots of contacts and we got to ride at the carnival!

“The lads were riding up and down the seafront, which is unheard of.

“They’ve got no brakes and I had to double-check that it was ok.

“There’s been so much support from the town and I’m looking forward to see what we can do next season.”
