WEYMOUTH WILDCATS 13

ISLE OF WIGHT WIZARDS 22

WEYMOUTH Wildcats lost out to the Isle of Wight Wizards in their first Southern Development League encounter at the Arlington Stadium.

The Wildcats’ opponents saw Jamie Sealey in superb form as he won three of the six heats to claim nine points for his side.

Weymouth’s highest scorer was Luke Barnes who accrued five points and won the third, and the Wildcats’ only heat of the night.

It was a case of a series of near misses for the Cats, as Bailey Fellows suffered issues with his bike when leading a heat during the fourth lap and was subsequently pipped to the line.

Jacob Fellows fell during one heat when there were only three riders and missed out on a point, while Barnes had a minor problem, which added up to widen the scoreline for the Wizards.

Co-promotor Martin Peters said: “As long as they are learning. That is the main thing and if you take that away then maybe you come back next time a bit stronger and a little bit quicker.”

When asked if he felt the issues with bikes and falls had cost the team, Peters said: “A little bit maybe, the score might have been a little bit closer.

“I think Luke in his last ride had a problem with his bike, he scored nothing he could have scored two."

Peters paid tribute to the Wildcats’ opponents, as he said: “I think the Wizards would have still won. Jamie Sealey was very good for them. It is the best I have seen him ride down there.”

The result means that Weymouth remain without a point, alongside Exeter and Kent, who have yet to ride.

Weymouth travel to Plymouth to face Exeter on Friday, May 18.
