WESSEX Delivery Partnership LLP has sent a letter to Harold Doonan reaffirming their stance over the vacant Wessex Raceway.

The landlords have once again stated in the correspondence that they have “no plans at the moment to lease out the Wessex track for motorsport activities”, which will no doubt upset fans of the Weymouth Wildcats whose hopes of survival now stand at just a flicker.

However, despite having failed to earmark a new site in the borough for the troubled club, Doonan is still not giving up hope.

The builders’ merchant, who waited seven weeks for WDP to send him official notice, has released the following statement: “I would like to thank Wessex Delivery for their correspondence and the fact that they have kindly offered to contact me should the decision alter in the future. However, whilst the track lays dormant, and in the continuing absence of future plans for it, there is always still a possibility of a return.”

WDP are in partnership with Mordan Sindall Group PLC, who are currently building a new community fire station in Weymouth on Radipole Lane.

Some Wildcats’ fans have suggested holding a demonstration at the grand opening of the facility and it appears such action could now be in the offing.

Doonan went on to say: “I have a meeting scheduled for next week with several parties where we shall discuss where in our local community to stage our demonstration, as well as where our quest will take us next.” WDP blamed their long-awaited reply on a need to “consult our partners before responding”.
