Opposition to plans at former raceway

Dorset Echo: APPLICATION: The former Wessex Raceway APPLICATION: The former Wessex Raceway

AN APPLICATION has been made to change the use of the land which was once the home of the Weymouth Wildcats.

The area was originally designated for recreational use but since the recent removal of the speedway track, formerly the Wessex Raceway, landowners Wessex Delivery Partnership LLP have taken the next step in their plans for redevelopment.

West Dorset District Council have received an application to alter the use of the land to open storage and are inviting members of the public to air their views on the proposal by next Friday.

A number of comments have already been made in opposition to the application, including one from former Wildcats’ team manager Jem Dicken and another from Hilary Trevorah on behalf of Chickerell Town Council.

The former wrote: “I strongly oppose this application. The owners of this land have taken away one of Weymouth’s amenities which has been used by local people and tourists alike.

“This land has been designated for leisure purposes for years and planning should not be changed.”

he wants to turn into a storage place where businesses can dump stuff and let it ruin a lovely area , there is a football ground next door , there is already a problem of fly tipping in the stadium car park this will make it worse

I have to agree a beautiful area with the Wessex Golf Club one side and the Bob Lucas Stadium the other and in the middle of the two a dumping ground. The football fans and the speedway fans owe Curtis and this company nothing. Why after all these years should they get squeezed out. Oh of course they are going to build the football club a nice new stadium, yeah right!! Council do the right thing and say no! If you say yes then that's the beginning of the end. Grow some and stand up to them....just for once.

One can see through Curtis get permission for change of use use the site as a rubbish tip under the guise of storage so many complaints from the public about it so he then puts in for planning to develop and gets it .Hope and pray that the council can see through him and surely he has prematurely demolished the site designated for recreational use without planning permission shouldnt he be made to restore it back again to the raceway while his application takes its course ?? .In light of all this i think Bartlett probably did curtis a favour knocking him for the rent so he could bring these plans forward any news of a new home for the Wildcats ???
