DORCHESTER Town defender Roy O'Brien believes his side must continue with the same frame of mind if they are to build on Saturday's impressive 3-0 win at St Albans City.

The Magpies shot to the top of the Blue Square South table thanks to a fine performance that saw Jamie Gleeson, Hardy Pinto-Moreira and Matt Groves all hit the target.

O'Brien said: "It is a nice start for us. We have been training all week and working on a few things and it all came right for us.

"The goal that got us going was fantastic. Jamie Gleeson has hit one from 30 yards into the top corner and then a few minutes later we got a second. There is no doubt it is going to be a competitive league and you have got to get in the right frame of mind and we did that.

"We set our stall out and got a good result, and everyone in the group is delighted but it is just a start. We were very attacking in the first half and we knew at half-time they would come at us in the second half but we kept our shape, defended well and then Matt Groves came off the bench to score our third."

O'Brien is confident the Magpies can enjoy a good season but he also thinks it will take time before the squad totally gels.

He said: "I think the mix of youth and experience we have is going to bode well for the future.

"We have a lot of enthusiastic young lads who have come from League clubs and want to prove themselves but it is going to take a bit of time for us to bond."

Town will host Havant & Waterlooville at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm). O'Brien added: "The home record the club had last season was not good but this is a new season and hopefully we can make the Avenue a bit of a fortress.

"If we can continue to keep clean sheets then we are not going to lose.

"Havant are favourites to win the league but we are not going to worry about them. We will respect them but we are just going to concentrate on what we are doing and make sure we play our game."
