WEYMOUTH RESERVES 5

HAMWORTHY UNITED RESERVES 1

A FLAWLESS first-half display, which left boss Jake Richmond purring, set the Terras up for an emphatic victory at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Richmond was that impressed with the football his side played before the break he described it as the best he had seen from his team this season.

The hosts led 4-0 at the interval and although Hamworthy scored a consolation with 15 minutes left, Weymouth restored their four-goal cushion almost instantly.

“If you’re lucky enough to be a manager and your players man-age themselves and do everything that you’ve asked of them, then the first 45 minutes on Saturday was that time for me,” he said.

“They were outstanding. They passed the ball well, got tight to the opposition when they needed to, and kept their shape.

“We destroyed them in the first half and I would say it’s the best football we’ve played this season.

“Every single one of them was superb and, with them being so young, it’s rare that all of them can put into practice what they learn in training in one game.

“Everything we’ve done in training came off in the first half and on that form no team in the league would have lived with us.

“And I don’t think that breath-taking is too strong a word to describe how we played.

“In reality, it’s very difficult to play that well for the full 90 minutes and we did switch off when they scored, but what was pleasing was that we scored again two minutes later.”

Oscar Preece was found by Louis Smith to open the scoring for the Terras before adding a second when lobbing the Ham-worthy keeper.

Sean Zima made it 3-0 from close range and, on 35 minutes, the game was all but over when the same player curled in a superb shot from the edge of the box.

And, after the visitors reduced the deficit to three from a corner through Jordan Basing, Lee Sharpe pounced to make it 5-1.

“Everyone was superb but the one that stood out for me was Gareth Will,” added Richmond. “He played in front of the back four and did a lot of hard work that probably went unnoticed by most.

“He’s only 17 but is a fantastic player who gives 100 per cent every time and never seems to have an off day – what a player.”

The Terras, who beat Satur-day’s opponents 5-0 at the County Ground only last month, stay fourth in the Dorset Premier League, two points behind leaders Merley Cobham Sports.
