PARLEY SPORTS 4 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3

JAKE Richmond pulled no punches in his assessment of this disappointing cup exit at the hands of Parley Sports.

The Weymouth reserve-team boss was left extremely frustrated by his team’s display and immediately let his feelings known afterwards.

Richmond told Echosport: “There were a few things that annoyed me.

“I warned the lads not to play in the wrong areas and also told them to set a good tempo from the start.

“They appeared to listen to everything I said but in the first two minutes we got caught twice trying to play pretty football at the back and quickly found ourselves 1-0 down.

“When you earmark something that is a weakness and your players don’t take it on board it is extremely frustrating.

“The other thing that annoyed me was that Parley clearly wanted it that bit more than us and, to be honest, had we taken the tie to extra-time it would have been an injustice.

“Two or three of our lads are just too nice at the minute and do not stick their foot in when they need to.

“And, on the day, four or five did not have the heart for it, which really disappointed me.

“Ryan Park made three or four excellent saves for us and I felt for him at the end because he deserved a lot more from the rest of the side.”

Lee Sharpe got caught dwelling on the ball for Parley’s early opener in this Dorset Premier League Cup tie before Sean Zima equalised from the penalty spot.

Sports then regained the lead after some more sloppy play from the Terras, this time in midfield, and that was how it stayed until the closing stages of the second half.

Sam Nichols and Louis Smith both saw efforts cleared off the line for Weymouth before a clearance from the home keeper ricocheted into the net off the back of Zima to restore parity once again.

However, within 60 seconds, Parley were back ahead and when they added a fourth in the 89th minute it was pretty much game over.

Oscar Preece ran through and lobbed the keeper to give the Terras some late hope but in the end the hosts held on.

The Terras’ woes were made worse after the match when it was confirmed that Sharpe had suffered a fractured ankle during the game and faces six weeks on the sidelines.

Terras: Park, Sharpe, Anstey, Butcher, Harvey, Beals, Smith, Frost (Jackson 60), Nichols, Zima, Preece. Subs not used: Tewkesbury, B Richmond.
