HAMWORTHY UTD RES 2 WEYMOUTH RES 3

WEYMOUTH Reserves were nearly made to pay for not taking their chances in front of goal at the County Ground on Saturday, but in the end they held out to clinch all three points.

The visitors led 3-0 at half-time through Luke Chatterton’s brace and a somewhat fortuitous third for Josh Tennant.

Hamworthy got a goal back 20 minutes into the second period and cut the deficit to one later on thanks to a clanger from Terras’ keeper Ryan Park.

The home side pushed for an equaliser though Weymouth managed to hold firm for an eighth victory of the season in the Dorset Premier League.

“I was relieved to get over the line, but it should have been more comfortable than it ended up being,” said Terras’ boss Jake Richmond.

“I was happy to get the win but I wasn’t too pleased with our performance.

“We created so many good chances and four or five of them in the second half were gilt-edged.

“We’ve got to be more clinical in the final third, and that’s as a team, not just the strikers.”

Meanwhile, Richmond had good things to say about the hosts, adding: “Hamworthy played some brilliant stuff which was really pleasing on the eye.

“If they keep playing like that they will start climbing the table.”

Chatterton, pictured, also came in for praise from his manager following a two-goal salvo that had put the visitors in command.

The first arrived in the third minute and the second, a clever flick from an Adam Anstey corner, found the net on 19 minutes.

Tennant’s cross-cum-shot float-ed over the Hamworthy keeper just before the break and, even after the hosts made it 3-1, Weymouth continued to dominate proceedings.

They should have gone on to wrap the game up, but when Tennant, Chatterton and Jamie Beasley fluffed their lines, Park’s howler gave Hamworthy hope of a draw, though ultimately that didn’t materialise.

“Ryan has been outstanding since he has been at the club and he is the best keeper in the league by quite a distance,” said Richmond of his man between the sticks.

“The goal was one of those that my cat would have saved but Ryan has made one mistake in a season-and-a-half and that says everything about him.”
