WEYMOUTH 4

WIMBORNE TOWN 0

CONOR Jevon notched a hat-trick as Weymouth progressed to the next stage of this season’s League Challenge Cup.

As expected, boss Jason Matthews gave himself a start in goal, in a Terras’ side that featured a number of changes against fellow Dorset club Wimborne at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

There were returns to the first-team squad for full-back Tiago Sa and striker Jevon, who partnered Sam Jordan up front.

There was also a call-up for winger Dom Panesar-Dower, who has been featuring for Bradley Asagba’s reserves in Sydenhams Wessex One.

Former Dorchester Town men Ben Walker, Sam Lanahan and Toby Holmes were named in Wimborne’s travelling party – there was also a space for former Terras’ coach Shane Traynor on the visitors’ bench.

With 15 minutes gone, Panesar-Dower then showed what he could do out on the right flank. He beat his man before playing a precise ball in for Jevon, but the Terras’ striker saw his effort saved by the feet of Wimborne keeper Jerard Benfield.

But the breakthrough came just four minutes later as a neat move from the hosts caught the Cuthbury outfit out, and there was Billy Lowes to convert at the near post and make it 1-0.

Wimborne were then gifted an opportunity to get back in it just short of the half-hour mark after some confusion in the Weymouth backline, but Lanahan failed to keep his shot down.

Mark Cooper then headed over after advancing from right-back to meet a ball from the opposite flank but the Terras got their second just seven minutes before the break.

Jevon managed to spring the offside trap and coolly rounded the goalkeeper to finish on the angle.

Calvin Brooks was then replaced by Aston Butcher for the hosts at the break and Jordan, who seemed to have picked up an injury, was soon brought off in place of Edgar Zanin.

The first real opportunity of the second period fell to the away side as Jack Lovell won the ball in a dangerous area but failed to keep his shot down. Cooper then headed over again at the other end.

The Terras then had a chance to seal the tie and make it three when Jevon broke clear on the left-hand side of the box, he cut the ball back for replacement Zanin but he could only fire straight at the keeper.

But the game was wrapped up on 86 minutes as Jevon added his second, smashing an effort which both Benfield and a covering defender failed to keep out.

He then completed his treble in stoppage time to complete a comfortable 4-0 triumph for the hosts.
