JASON Matthews has received a timely boost ahead of tonight’s home clash with Chesham United (7.45pm).

With Scott Walker sidelined with a groin injury, and Adam Kelly and Lamar Powell both facing late fitness tests, Weymouth’s options initially appeared limited for this evening but that is now not the case thanks to the re-emergence of George Rigg and Ashley Wells.

Matthews told Echosport: “Scott has been ruled out for two weeks and Adam and Lamar are both struggling with hamstring injuries.

“Lamar tweaked his in the warm-up on Saturday while Adam did his during the game and had to come off.

“Both of them will undergo late fitness tests and we will just have to see how they are.

“The last thing we need is more injuries but we have had some good news too.

“Ashley Wells has been told he is fit to return and George Rigg is available as well.

“I thought George may have already played his last game for us after recently signing dual registration forms with Weston-Super-Mare, so the fact we can use him tonight is great news.

“He came on for 10 minutes in Weston’s 3-1 defeat at Eastleigh at the weekend and did well by all accounts, and he will certainly give us a boost this evening.

“Ben Joyce is also fine to play, despite taking a nasty whack on the shin on Saturday, and Luke Winsper is okay too, so I should have plenty of options to choose from.”

Chesham currently sit second in the Calor Southern Premier Division and are the third highest scorers in the league.

They have also won six of their last seven games and possess the league’s highest scorer in Drew Roberts, who has found the net 31 times in all competitions so far this season.

Despite that, and Weymouth’s poor defensive record of late, Matthews will not be holding back tonight and will be ordering his side to attack.

He added: “We won’t be sitting back this evening that is for sure.

“Sometimes the best way to defend is attack and I am confident we can cause them problems.

“We have played some good stuff in spells over the last few games, and if we can cut out the mistakes and take our chances, there is no reason why we cannot get a result.

“There will be a few changes in personnel and hopefully we can put in a big performance.”

The Terras, who lie 10th, have conceded 20 goals in their last eight games.

Terras: Matthews, Park, Poole, M Walker, Hutchings, Wells, McConnell, Holland, Green, Winsper, Kelly, Colwell, Rigg, Zima, Joyce, Yetton, Powell.

*The Weymouth FC Supporters Association has unveiled plans for a new Supporters’ Player of the Month Award.

Fans can select their player of the month by going to the club’s official website and voting after each game (home and away).

The percentage scores will then be averaged over the games played throughout the month to determine the winner, who will then be awarded a trophy.

A WFCSA member will be selected at random from the group’s database to make each presentation.

The association is now looked for local businesses to sponsor the award.

For more details, contact the WFCSA via the club shop or main office at WFC, or email contact@uptheterras.co.uk
