JASON Matthews was content with the way his side picked themselves up off the canvas to produce a plucky 1-0 home win over Shortwood United in the FA Trophy.

The Terras were smarting after exiting the FA Cup in Braintree Town last time out, and although at times they still appeared to be feeling the physical effects of that defeat, they dug in to see off their lower league opposition and keep dreams of a Wembley appearance this season still alive.

“The lads were a bit drained but at the end of the day it was all about getting a result,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport. “The pleasing thing for me is we have won ugly, I have kept a clean sheet and I don’t feel like they hurt us that much.

“Our energy levels were probably around 90 per cent after a draining performance in midweek, but, at the end of the day, it was a cup game and the result is all you want.

“We have a big chance in this competition and we are going to be treating it with the respect it deserves.

“One or two wins in this and you never know where it can take you, for me and a lot of players it’s everyone’s dream to play at Wembley, this is our best chance and we will be giving it our best shot.

The Weymouth chief was also pleased to see Tim Sills return to action and Tristan Plummer make his debut in the second half, which he believed gave the side some added impetus from the bench.

He added: “Without being disrespectful, it was really nice to have some attacking options on the bench. I have had a lot of defensive options and they have all been outstanding, but it was good to freshen it up a little bit.”
