JASON Matthews is set to cast his eye over his squad from the touchline tonight (7.45pm) as Weymouth take on Cranborne in the Dorset Senior Cup.

The player-manager, whose side have gone through a gruelling cup schedule of late, admits that their second round clash as the Bob Lucas Stadium will not feature a full complement of first-team names, but will give some squad members some much needed game time.

The likes of first-team members Tim Sills, Jamie West, Sam Poole, Luke Winsper and Jake Wannell are all set to get game time.

Jordan Copp should also return to the squad after suffering from illness and is likely to be used in a midfield role and Conor Jevon is also set to come back into the fold.

Matthews also indicated that as well as intending to give himself a rest, loanee Tristan Plummer will not be available.

“It won’t be my full first team and that is just being honest but it gives the lads that haven’t played as much football a good chance,” Matthews told Echosport.

“It will be very similar to the Red Insure Cup squad, the players that didn’t play on Saturday will play and we will treat the competition with the respect it deserves.

“A few need a rest and a few need a game so it’s an ideal opportunity to fit all that in this week.

“Tim Sills will probably get 45 minutes because he probably needs it and maybe someone like Jordan Copp will have the chance to play in his proper position in midfield again.

“Our main aim is the league really but it’s a good competitive cup to give some of my squad players a game.”

Dorset Premier League outfit Cranborne, who suffered a 2-1 reverse at home to Wareham Rangers at the weekend, currently occupy 15th spot in their respective league.

The winner of this evening’s tie will seal a home tie with Hamworthy Recreation in the quarter-finals.
