JORDAN Copp has tipped Weymouth as a potential surprise package in this season’s FA Trophy.

While he admits the club have to take it one step at a time in the competition, continuing with today’s home tie against Cray Wanderers (3pm), the former Plymouth Argyle youngster believes a Wembley final is even a possibility for the Terras, providing they get the right draw.

“Everyone enjoys a good cup run, it’s good for the fans and the club,” he told Echosport.

“We will take it one game at a time but with the squad and the team spirit we have, I think we can surprise a lot of people this season. We will take today for now and see how we get on.

“I know we are quite a few rounds away but Wembley is the target and I don’t think there is anything major stopping us. As long as we get the luck of draw we will be okay and we could challenge.”

Should the Terras progress at the Bob Lucas Stadium this afternoon, the likelihood is that sterner opposition than Kent-based Cray will await in the first round proper, but the 21-year-old will not be taking the Wands lightly.

“We are favourites for it but that means nothing if we don’t turn up and perform,” he claimed.

“A Tuesday night replay away in Kent is not what the boys want so we are going to go out and try to do the business so that doesn’t happen.

“We haven’t lost many games this year and we will take the game as it comes, but we want to keep winning as many games as possible, whether that is in the Trophy as part of a cup run or in the league to keep the pressure on Poole.”

Individually, the former Truro City man bagged his first league goal for the Terras against Burnham last time out with a fizzing effort that gave his side the lead.

Commenting on the goal, he added: “I don’t want to brag too much but it wasn’t a bad strike.

“I was pretty pleased with it. I don’t manage to get many so when they do come around I like to celebrate them a little bit.”

Meanwhile, Weymouth have confirmed rearranged dates for their league fixtures with Hereford United. The Terras will now travel to Hereford on Tuesday, January 27 (7.45pm) and take on the Bulls at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Good Friday, April 3 (3pm).
