ELATED Weymouth boss Jason Matthews hailed his players’ quality, as they completed a league double over arch-rivals Dorchester Town at the Avenue.

Stewart Yetton was spot on, dispatching two penalties during the second period, and Tim Sills headed home a third late on in front of the visiting supporters to seal all three points on a memorable Boxing Day for the club.

Matthews told Echosport: “It means a lot to the fans and credit to Dorchester, they gave us a really hard game. In saying that, I always felt that our quality would come through.

“I felt that we put a great spectacle on and it was a great derby in boggy conditions. I would class it as an old school derby.

“There was big pressure on us to come to Dorchester, they put up a great fight, but our quality told in the end.

“We probably had everything to lose and not a lot to gain because people expect us to win games like this. That’s no disrespect to Dorchester, it’s just the current situation of where both clubs are.

“The lads were great and it’s another three points over the Christmas period, which is all you can ask for.”

The player-manager also indicated that full-back Ashley Wells will need to be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s encounter with Arlesey Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm) after he limped off with a groin problem.

Calvin Brooks’ loan deal from Yeovil Town has also expired, and Jamie Laird is suspended, meaning Matthews may be forced to field an unfamiliar back four for the contest.

He added: “Sam Poole has been very patient, he deserves a chance and he should get a chance tomorrow. As to who plays with him, I have a few options.

“I have seven-day approaches in for a of couple players too and we will see where it goes, but we would like to sign Calvin (Brooks) on a permanent basis, whether or not we can afford him, I don’t know.”
