JASON Matthews insists that bragging rights will be at stake when Weymouth host Truro City at the Bob Lucas Stadium today (3pm).

Defender Jamie Laird is set to come back into the Terras’ squad for their encounter against the Tigers, who completed a league double over Matthews’ men during the last campaign.

“It’s a massive test,” said the Weymouth player-manager, who is looking for revenge over fellow player-boss and former team-mate Steve Tully.

“There are bragging rights at stake because a lot of the lads from both teams live quite close to each other.

“They have a lot of former Weymouth players and a Weymouth favourite is in charge of them, but we look forward to going into the game.

“Truro have got a very big squad and they have spent a lot of money, but we have had tough games before and come through them.

“We went to Dunstable when they were the form team and beat them on their own patch, so it is just another game as far as I’m concerned.

“Truro will be tough and we will treat them with the respect they deserve, but they are coming to our place and we are unbeaten.”

As well as deadly frontman Stewart Yetton, there are a number of other former Truro players in the current Weymouth squad, including Jordan Copp and Adam Kelly.

Matthews also indicated that he would not risk fielding Yetton against his former club, unless he is 100 per cent fit.

“Obviously Yetts is struggling with his groin and I won’t chance him for one game,” he added.

“One game won’t win or lose us our season, we have got ourselves in a fantastic position and I won’t risk my players’ health.

“We need to boost the squad a little bit, which is something I am working incredibly hard to do, but at the same time, it has to be the right person for Weymouth Football Club.

“This one will be a cup final, the fans will come out in force and will look forward to playing in it, the boys are bang up for it at the moment.”
