DEFENDER Sam Poole admitted his frustration of suffering injuries at vital times this season, but is targeting a spot back in the Terras’ ranks in the near future.

The former Weymouth captain who decided to stay with the club following speculation over his future in the summer, suffered a broken nose against Arlesey Town last month, which kept him out of the 1-1 draw on New Year’s Day against Truro City.

Commenting on the blow to the face he received against the Blues last month, which has landed him with two black eyes for his troubles, he told Echosport: “I went to the hospital after because it wouldn’t stop bleeding, and they couldn’t do anything until the swelling went down.

“They just said to keep icing it and let the swelling come out which is what I have done, but if they do have to re-break it to realign it I am hoping it is going to take a couple of weeks maximum really.

“I think it’s probably going to have to be realigned because it is quite wonky.

“I am hoping to get back playing as soon as possible, I have been waiting to get a chance.

“I can’t let myself get too frustrated by it otherwise it’s just going to get me down more than anything, I just need to keep my head up and get back to full health. It’s been a frustrating season so far but if I can get my nose sorted out hopefully I can stake another claim to get back into the team.”

Poole also suffered an ankle problem which kept him out for a number of weeks earlier in the campaign.

But the defender believes he has performed well in the game time that he has had for the Terras this term.

“I think I have come in and at least done my job, if not a little bit more,” he added.

“Jason said I was going to get a chance in the Arlesey game so obviously I was buzzing to play in that, and I thought I was doing okay up until the point I got taken off.

“With Calvin Brooks’ loan running out I thought it would be a good chance to get a run back in the team.

“I would happily play on Saturday if I can, even if I’m not 100 per cent, but it all depends what Jason’s plans are.”

And while he has struggled for first-team action so far this term, the powerful centre-half is loving being part of a winning squad.

“This season has been a welcome relief,” he added.

“You go into training and everyone has a smile on their face, buzzing around and working hard. It makes such a difference having a winning dressing room compared to those I have experienced before where we have been fighting against relegation.

“I wasn’t anything major at the start of the season, it was a matter between me and the club more than anything. I am glad we got it sorted out and I am happy that I stayed with Weymouth. Hopefully I can go on and get a league medal.”
