EXPERIENCED frontman Tim Sills admits it has been a tough first season with injuries at Weymouth, due to an ongoing knee problem, but he is still striving to help the club secure promotion.

The former Torquay United and Aldershot man, who penned a one-year deal at the Bob Lucas Stadium in June, revealed he is suffering with osteoarthritis in his knee cap, meaning his workload has been monitored by manager Jason Matthews throughout the campaign.

“I had problems three or four years ago and then felt it again earlier this season,” he told Echosport.

“I found out it was the onset of osteoarthritis on my knee cap.

“You never want to hear that word but it’s not unusual for a footballer of my age.

“Now I know what is going on I can play with a bit more freedom.”

A double against Chippenham Town in September as well as netting in the Ridgeway derby on Boxing Day are particular highlights of the 35-year-old’s time with the Terras, but he admits that he expected more than the three league goals he has mustered so far.

Commenting on his goal against the Magpies, he added: “It’s always nice to score and it was good for me because I haven’t got as many goals this season as I would have liked.

“It has been a tough season with injuries so to score in such a big game as well made it all the more satisfying.

“My career has been about scoring goals and I don’t enjoy not scoring. There is no better feeling in football than scoring goals and winning games.

“I’m hoping I can express myself more on the pitch and score more goals in the second half of the season.

“But as long as the team is doing well that’s all that matters.

“I’m quite happy to be the battering ram that spends 70 minutes beating up the defenders for Yetts (Stewart Yetton) to get the reward.”

And while he is looking to add to his own tally in the second half of the season, Sills also believes there is far more to come from his side, who take on Cambridge City at the Bob Lucas Stadium today (3pm).

“I don’t think we have hit top gear yet, and we have struggled through a lot of games,” he added.

“We’ve got to manage ourselves with a lot of games coming up.”
