BOSS Jason Matthews is looking for the Terras to build momentum in a three-game period which could define his side’s entire season.
Weymouth host 10th-placed Chesham United at the Bob Lucas Stadium tonight (7.45pm) before a mouth-watering double-header against title rivals Poole Town, starting at Tatnam on Saturday.
And with the Dolphins occupied by a Red Insure Cup quarter-final against Truro City this evening, Matthews’ men have the chance to regain top spot in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, but only if they see off the Generals.
“We can build some momentum and it’s very important that we don’t lose against Chesham,” the Terras’ player-manager told Echosport.
“If we can get some momentum and put in a good performance it takes us into Saturday quite nicely.
“All the lads know we have a job to do, our only concentration is putting ourselves in a good position in the league.
“It’s important we get a result which takes us back to the top, and looking at the number of games played, it keeps us in the play-off positions at least.
“If we put in a good performance it gives me food for thought for the game on Saturday. I have 17 good players in the squad now with the two loanees and it’s nice to be able to mix it up.
“There is competition for places and no one can rest on their laurels.”
Chesham, who narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs last term, have slightly lost their way in the league, recording back-to-back defeats and conceding seven goals in the process.
Commenting on the Generals, Matthews added: “I have spoken to a few people about them and I know they are a good side.
“They have had a little bit of a blip like us and other teams in the league, but hopefully we can capitalise on theirs.”
Ashley Wells is likely to be the only Weymouth player not available for selection as he serves the final game of a three-match ban.
