JASON Matthews hailed his troops’ endeavour as they stuck to the task to seal all three points against Chesham United, and return to the top of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Despite a nervy second period in which Weymouth survived a handful of scares from the Generals late on, the Terras’ boss was full of praise for his team and believes they have the momentum going into Saturday’s crunch clash with Poole Town at Tatnam.

Commenting on last night’s display, he told Echosport: “I thought we were outstanding in the first half, we really took the game to them and the tempo was superb.

“The second half was the complete opposite, we didn’t pass the ball well against the wind and credit to Chesham, they put us under pressure.

“I wasn’t overly happy with the second-half performance but it’s about picking up three points.

“I couldn’t fault the lads’ desire, I had questioned it in a couple of games when we had a little bad run but tonight it was unquestionable.

“We are building momentum going into the game on Saturday.”

Matthews also revealed that defender Calvin Brooks was taken off as a precaution for the weekend after suffering a slight hamstring problem, but should be fit to feature against the Dolphins.
