MANAGER Jason Matthews gave his views over two penalty incidents at either end during his side’s 4-0 loss at Poole Town on Saturday.

The Dolphins opened their account for the afternoon through Steve Devlin’s cool spot-kick on 62 minutes, after Ashley Wells was adjudged to have tangled with Portsmouth loanee Ben Close.

Speaking about that incident, the Terras’ chief told Echosport: “It was one of them that you have seen given but I felt it was harsh.

“He was going away from goal, had a roll over, and the ref has seen it as a penalty.

“There was minimal contact and the ball is rolling out for a throw-in, it was something of nothing really, that part was disappointing.

“Devlin is very good at spot-kicks and set-pieces as a whole, he has tucked it away well.

“That gave Poole the momentum and they are very good at keeping clean sheets, but I am still very disappointed with the way we capitulated after it.”

With the score at 1-0, Matthews was at the opposite end of the pitch when Adam Kelly went down in the Poole area, under pressure from two defenders.

But although cries for a spot-kick were waved away, the Weymouth goalkeeepr said his players felt there were legitimate claims.

He added: “They (the players) feel strongly that it was a nailed-on penalty.

“But the lads haven’t reacted well to not getting the decision.

“We lost our discipline after that and Poole took advantage of it. With the players they have got they can do that.”
