WEYMOUTH have announced the signing of Robbie Matthews on an initial one-month loan from Gosport Borough, and he will go straight into the squad for today's game against Redditch United.

Boss Jason Matthews reckons his new loan signing, who enjoyed a spell at Dorchester earlier in the season, will give his side that “bit of bite” they have been lacking of late.

And it is not only his strength and height that the Weymouth chief is looking to utilise – the 32-year-old can play as a centre-half or centre-forward.

“Robbie will give us some of that strength we are probably lacking at the moment,” said Jason Matthews.

“He’ll also give us a bit of bite and I know Robbie will do well for us.

“He can play at centre-half or up front and he will give us a presence in both areas. He will freshen things up as well.

“I’ve watched him play a lot and he has always done well when I’ve played against him.

“He knows this league and has got a lot of experience.”

Robbie Matthews has also played for Salisbury, Crawley, Kidderminster, Newport and Forest Green during his career.

Terras’ fans will be hoping his arrival at the Bob Lucas Stadium brings about a change in their team’s current fortunes.

Weymouth have picked up nine points from the last 24 and were soundly beaten by title rivals Poole last time out.
