WEYMOUTH RES 4 SHERBORNE TOWN RES 3

SZYMON Matuszewski was in top form again for Weymouth Reserves on Saturday, scoring twice in his side’s fifth successive Dorset Premier League victory.

Terras’ team-mates Antony Carlile and substitute Jamie Beasley also netted as the hosts moved to within one point of third-placed Portland United, whose home clash with Merley was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

And while happy to secure another three points, Weymouth boss Jake Richmond was also full of praise for the visitors to the Bob Lucas Stadium.

“We showed good character,” he said. “They went 1-0 up and 2-1 up but we demonstrated plenty of character to come back both times.

“Sherborne kept going right until the final whistle and you could see why they have taken points off teams at the top of the league.

“It was good to keep our good run going but we really had to fight and dig in for the win because they stuck at it throughout.”

And commenting on another excellent display from Matuszewski,” he added: “He’s different class.

"He has hit a real purple patch and is knitting things together for us. It took him five or six games to get used to things when he came here but he is playing out of his skin at the moment.

“He is composed on the ball, has a decent first touch, and is now starting to take his chances.”

Carlile made it 1-1 after Sherborne’s early opener, the Weymouth man firing in from 15 yards after Josh Tennant had been denied.

The away side regained the lead just after the hour mark, however, minutes later Aston Butcher headed a Sean Zima free-kick back across goal and Matuszewski converted.

Beasley, on for Carlile, provided the assist for Matuszewski’s second of the afternoon as the Polish midfielder headed in from close range.

And the points were sealed when Matuszewski and Tennant combined to set up Beasley for the fourth.

Sherborne did have the last word with a third goal right at the death to make it 4-3.

“The only disappointing thing for me was the cheap free-kick we gave away for their third goal,” added Richmond.

“But that was my only real gripe and the most pleasing thing was the character we showed.”
