RISING stars Becky Raybould and Alex Jolliffe have received yet more recognition for their cycling skills by being named in the Great Britain team for the UEC Under-23 and Junior European Track Championships.

The two Weymouth aces are part of a 30-strong squad who will be representing their country at the event in Athens next week (July 14-19).

Jolliffe is set to in the junior men’s sprint alongside Jack Carlin, Frank Longstaff and Joe Trueman, while Raybould is entered in the junior women’s endurance with Megan Barker, Abigail Dentus, Eleanor Dickinson and Grace Garner.

Great Britain won two gold, four silver and four bronze medals 12 months ago, with current junior European team pursuit champions Barker and Garner gaining selection again for this year’s competition in Greece.

Current elite European champion Katie Archibald has been selected too as have former junior world champions Danni Khan, Emily Kay and Emily Nelson.

British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton said: “This is the largest team we’ve fielded at an Under-23 and Junior European Championships for a long time, and that’s indicative of the hard work we’ve been doing on the performance pathway to ensure that talented young riders are identified and developed.

“The chance to compete at these championships is an opportunity to be cherished.

“The young athletes selected could represent the future of the Great Britain Cycling Team so I’m looking forward to seeing what results we can get and where they stand in relation to the rest of Europe at this stage of their careers.

“We’ve also selected some non-programme riders for this event which demonstrates our commitment to constantly be on the lookout for new talent as we look beyond Rio and on to Tokyo 2020.”

Raybould and Jolliffe started cycling while pupils at Wey Valley School and have gone from strength to strength since their inclusion on the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme last October.
