BOSS Jason Matthews insists the Terras will be treating Petersfield Town with the utmost respect when they take on the Hampshire outfit in the FA Cup tomorrow (3pm).

Weymouth might be favourites for the tie but Matthews knows the Rams, Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division champions last season, cannot be underestimated.

And even though Petersfield’s form in Evo-Stik Southern Division One Central has been patchy this term, manager Ian Saunders and his men are still going to be hopeful of a cup upset at Love Lane.

Looking ahead to the first qualifying round clash, Matthews told Echosport: “It’s important to have a good run in the cup as it raises the profile of the club and brings in a bit of money as well.

“The FA Cup is the greatest cup competition in the world and you need to negotiate the early rounds if you want a really big prize later on.

“I’ve had some great times in the FA Cup during my career and my hunger to do well in it has not dwindled.”

He added: “Petersfield won the Wessex League last season and will be tough opponents on their own ground.

“It’s vitally important we go there with the right attitude and prepare for the game like any other.

“We are obviously in a higher league but they have home advantage and so we’re expecting a difficult game.”

Matthews has no injury worries ahead of the encounter and is set to add back-up keeper Steve Boore to his matchday squad.
