THREE wins on the bounce is manager Jason Matthews’ aim when the Terras host Kettering Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Bidding for a league double over the Poppies, the Terras are looking to follow up on victories over Histon and Cambridge City when the Latimer Park outfit come to visit this weekend.

Kettering currently occupy 11th spot in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division but, with the league as remarkably close as it is at present, they could overtake third-placed Weymouth if they win their three games in hand on the Terras.

However, with his team having already chalked up 47 points, Matthews is fully focused on cementing Weymouth’s place in the play-off spots.

He told Echosport: “Kettering at home is a big game and if we win that it would set a marker down.

"It would get us to 50 points and it’s a case of building from there.

“I know their manager well and they have strengthened well.

“They have aspirations to be up there and make the play-offs, but you could say the same for 12 sides.

“It’s an incredibly tight league and two wins in a week has put us third, but we could have dropped to around 12th.”

He added: “I think the next four weeks are crucial.

“I think in the next bank of four or five games the chasing pack of 12 will go to about nine.

“A few teams may think they are not going to make the play-offs, reduce their budget, and save for next season.

“I am desperate to still be in that mix, keep racking the points up, and try to chase down Poole a little bit in time for our derby against them.

“There is no getting away from the fact that we have probably drawn four games that we should have won. Those eight points would put us right up there with Poole.

“Chippenham have stolen a march on teams and are right up there having gone past the 50-point mark.

“They are going to be up there but if you look at the other teams like Hitchin, who have done exceptionally well, I’ve been informed that a few of their players have left since we last played them, so it will be interesting to see how they do in the second half of the season.”

Midfielder Mark Molesley, who missed out on Tuesday night’s win over Cambridge with a back injury, is expected to be involved tomorrow.

Matthews said: “Mark twisted his back and was unable to play on Tuesday. He was a late withdrawal.

“He had some treatment earlier in the day. In fairness to him, he did say he would go out and have a fitness test but, with the cold weather, I decided against it with the amount of games we have coming up. He will be back in contention and it gives me a lot of food for thought.”

A goal from Stewart Yetton gave Weymouth a 1-0 win the last time the two sides met.
