WEYMOUTH ace Mark Cooper admits it is good to see close friend Ben Thomson banging in the goals for the Terras at present.

The Weymouth full-back, who arrived at the Bob Lucas Stadium last summer before Thomson, admits he is delighted to see his mate thrive in a Weymouth shirt and insisted he “knew he had it in him”.

Thomson has been going through a hot run of scoring form in March. His double against Dorchester Town in the Dorset Senior Cup at the start of the month was followed up by a brace against Stratford Town last Saturday and another strike against Bideford on Tuesday.

Speaking about the striker, Cooper told said: “We have got Thommo who is on absolute fire at the moment, which is good. He is probably one of my best friends off the pitch as well and it’s nice to see. I just wished he had more confidence in himself and realised he’s as good a player as he is.

“I was with him at Frome for a couple of years and he had a few injuries, but even then you knew how good he was.

“When I came to Weymouth at the start of the season Jase (Matthews, manager) said we needed to get him over and, to be fair, he was quite a hard one to crack because he was in his comfort zone.

“But I managed to help get him over and I think he wanted to because it’s quite nice playing with your close friends as well, whatever level you play at.

n Shareholders and supporters have been invited to meet with the architect of the proposed new stadium.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 4pm at the Bob Lucas Stadium to discuss implementing ideas that fans have put forward for the new ground.

“I am just buzzing that he is doing so well. I knew he had it in him.”

On the Terras’ recent impressive run of form, Cooper added: “We are confident going into every game but we are taking every game as it comes, we are not looking at what’s in front of us, we are just taking it a game at a time.

“Everyone is confident and there is a good feel around the changing room now.

“I think ever since we switched to the 80s music, everything’s gone crazy.

“We all get in there sing after we win. It’s good, we just need to keep it going on the pitch and you never know where we could come in 10 games time.”
