JASON Matthews felt the cup defeat to Paulton Rovers summed up their season as they drew 1-1 in normal time before losing 4-3 on penalties to go out of the League Challenge Cup.

An own goal levelled things up for the Terras in the 90th minute after Kane Simpson had taken the lead for the Rovers.

Misses from Dan Smith and Bradley Tarbuck in the shootout saw the Rovers go through but, the boss wasn’t too worried with the result.

He told Echosport: “We gave a few lads a chance and there were no injuries. We did very well to get back into it. Both sides had chances and again I’m saying that we should have taken our chances.

“After the first 20 minutes, we should have been out of sight. This has been the story of our season.”

Aaron Rodriguez came through 50 minutes and was lively, hitting the bar in the opening exchanges.

After his good display, Matthews feels he could play a part on Saturday.

The chief added: “Rodders is a player that I rate highly and we just have to get him back to full match fitness. He came through 50 minutes and hopefully after a good training session tomorrow, he will be in contention to start on Saturday.”

Chae Brancman was also given another chance to impress but, it is unlikely he will be staying with the Terras.
