JASON Matthews outlined the ongoing need for consistency in his side’s performances, as they came away with a 2-2 draw at Whitehawk in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

A late Chris Shephard penalty meant the sides will do battle once more in a replay at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm) as well as the Terras being in the hat for Monday's second round draw.

Giving his thoughts on the game, in which Charlie Davis also found the net, Matthews told Echosport: “Our first half performance I was not pleased with at all and I let the boys know that.

“I had a lot of words to say at half-time because I was very disappointed with the way we played in the opening half.

“But in the second half we came out and took the game to Whitehawk and thoroughly deserved a draw – we even could have nicked it at the end.”

He added: “Our second half performance was outstanding but that, for me, is the story of our season, we can’t keep doing it in fits and starts.

“If we don’t take the bull by the horns now, it may be a time that we were to make a few changes.

“There is nobody in that dressing room I dislike and there is nobody that doesn’t go out and give me 100 per cent. What I do feel though is that a few aren’t doing themselves justice with the ability they have got at the level we are playing at.

“When we play higher teams you get punished for that and that’s what happened in the first half.

“I feel the lads are good enough and we move into a big replay on Tuesday now.”

Jordan Copp missed Saturday’s game having failed a fitness test on his ankle.
