JASON Matthews believes if any of his players cannot get up for Monday’s derby clash at Dorchester Town “it is pointless them being with the club”.

The Terras, who won the reverse fixture back in August at the Bob Lucas Stadium, go into the clash five points behind the Magpies with six games in hand on their Ridgeway counterparts.

Matthews’ men have faltered in recent league outings, with just 11 points from their last 10 fixtures in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

And with the pressure growing on the Terras’ boss, he is determined for his side to put on a stellar derby display.

“If you can’t get people up for this game then it is pointless them being with the club. It’s as simple as that,” he told Echosport.

“Our fans are brilliant and will come out in their droves for this game. Our players should embrace that. For me, as a player, it always drove me on.

“The stick I got from behind the goal from the Dorchester fans always drove me on as well and gave me a bit of an extra lift, not that I needed it.”

He added: “This game is a big game for a lot of reasons. We need to kick-start our season and I can’t keep saying that.

“Jem leaving Dorchester gives it a bit of extra spice and there is a lot riding on the game.

“It’s just one big cup final. It will be muddy at Dorchester and we have to adapt to it, get on with our game and take the game to Dorchester again.

“We have done well in the big games this season and we need to do well at Dorchester.”

Stephane Zubar is suspended for the encounter, which is a huge blow for the Terras ahead of the contest.

But defender Jake Wannell is back to full fitness after a calf problem, full-back Ashley Wells will be back from illness and playmaker Chris Shephard is also set to return following a bout of flu and a chest infection.

“It’s up to the likes of Shep to stamp his authority on this derby,” Matthews added.
