SHAFTESBURY 3
WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Shaftesbury on a day which manager Bradley Asagba called “a very bad day at the office.”
The result saw the Terras suffer their first defeat since December 17 on an afternoon where little went right.
It was a bright opening for Weymouth who hit the crossbar early on and had a penalty appeal turned down within the opening few minutes.
As the game unfolded it was clear that neither side were at their best, resulting in a scrappy and disjointed 90 minutes.
Shaftesbury went 1-0 up when a free-kick was played into the box, only to be half-cleared to the edge of the area where the striker hit a bobbled effort towards goal which crept into the corner.
The same thing happened again shortly after when another free-kick wasn’t cleared, leading to the Shaftesbury attacker having a free shot on goal to double their lead.
The third came when a long ball downfield found its way to the Weymouth goalkeeper who sliced his clearance to the on-rushing striker who played the ball to his team-mate to tap into the empty net, and manager Bradley Asagba was unimpressed with his side’s performance.
He said: “It was simply a very bad day at the office.
“Going into the game we had quite a few people unavailable meaning that we weren’t only missing good players, but leaders as well.”
Asagba was then honest in his assessment of his side’s second-half performance. He said: “The second half was probably one of the worst halves of football we’ve had since I’ve been in charge. It wasn’t good.
“There wasn’t any good football played on the day, I don’t think Shaftesbury could say they played particularly well and it looked like two very poor teams out there.
“What Shaftesbury did was manage the game and manage the environment a lot better than us and I think you have to credit them for continuing their momentum from last season.
“They had three or four real leaders out there and I think that mentality and character was the deciding factor on the day, not the football being played.”
