WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley was full of praise for Ben Thomson after his efforts helped Weymouth stride to a 1-0 win over fellow play-off contenders Slough Town.

Thomson played a starring role as on Tuesday Weymouth beat Slough and helped create the goal in the first minute of the second half that Calvin Brooks fired in to secure Weymouth’s fourth win in a row.

Molesley said: “I have to say I think Thommo up front was magnificent, he never gave the defensive line a minute’s rest, with his strength his power and his pace, he really pushed them back.”

After the first eight minutes, in which Slough were noticeably on top, the Terras became the dominant force in the match and Thomson himself nearly scored after nine minutes after Rebels’ goalkeeper Jack Turner parried a Brandon Goodship shot into Thomson’s path but Turner again saved.

Thomson was a consistent attacking threat for the Terras throughout the match and at the start of the second half worked well to get forward and give the ball to Abdulai Baggie, who subsequently crossed in to let Brooks notch his fourth goal in three games.

Molesley said: “He was a great foil for the players around him, he really put in a good shift as did everyone.

“I do not usually single people out. It was a real team effort but I think Tommo’s work rate up there, his power, he was a constant menace.

“He really took the game to them fed, behind by some great play from us.”

Weymouth's Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division encounter with Kettering is yet to be rearranged after a waterlogged Latimer Park pitch forced the postponement of the fixture on Friday.
