SEVERAL interested parties are holding talks with George Rolls over a possible takeover of Weymouth FC.

One of those is believed to be ex-Plymouth Argyle chief operating officer Tony Campbell, who watched the Terras beat Banbury United 2-1 on Saturday.

It is understood Campbell made an initial enquiry about the club last year but yesterday Rolls was quick to play down speculation that a deal has already been agreed with the former Pilgrims’ employee.

The ex-Weymouth chairman, who continues to be linked with Kettering Town, said: “There are several parties interested in taking over at WFC and the Rolls family is exploring all avenues.

“It would not be fair for me to comment on individuals but what I can say is that the Rolls family will continue to do what is right for the club.”

Echosport also asked director Nigel Biddlecombe about these latest developments and he confirmed Rolls had also told him the club had not been sold to Campbell.

The ongoing uncertainty continues to rile supporters particularly with Rolls having committed his family’s future to the Terras on several occasions since the turn of the year.

Speaking at a general meeting at the Bob Lucas Stadium on January 9, the Cambridge-based businessman even went as far as telling fans: “After two-and-a-half years of hard work this place (Weymouth) is really starting to feel like a second home now and having spoken to my wife just this morning we anticipate being here a long time.”

Echosport was unable to contact Campbell.
