Radipole Primary School has scooped the School Tag Rugby Festival title.

Weymouth Rugby Club hosted the popular event where Dorchester’s St Osmund’s School finished a very close second.

Schools from Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester travelled to Monmouth Avenue to compete for the Magna Trophy, which was sponsored by Magna Housing Association.

The standard of rugby was extremely high throughout the afternoon with some fantastic tries being scored and plenty of excellent teamwork.

Weymouth College provided match officials who had recently been trained in the sport as part of their college course. Weymouth Rugby Club facilitated the event with the help of club volunteers and coaches.

The trophy was presented to Radipole School by Trea Murphy from Magna.

Weymouth Rugby Club are planning a similar event for Spring 2013 as part of the Tag 2 Twickenham nationwide programme, where successful schools have a chance at playing at the home of rugby.

As part of Weymouth Rugby Club’s commitment to improve rugby within the community the club is looking into holding mini fixtures, starting early 2013.

Any school interested in participating should contact Mike Murphy at Weymouth Rugby Club by email at msmurphy1971@hotmail.com or schools@weymouthrfc.org.uk
